Drinking from my saucer...

I have a favorite poem that hangs on our fridge. It's been there for several years and I read it almost every day while I'm doing dishes, waiting on toast, or adding to the calendar. It was a favorite of my Aunt Jody and I keep this message close to my heart, repeating it throughout the day and in those quiet moments when the house is finally still at night...that's when I really let it wash over me and I realize how blessed I am - so blessed that I'm drinking from my saucer...
My Saucer

I've never made a fortune
and it's probably too late now.
But I don't worry about that much,
I'm happy anyhow.
And as I go along life's way,
I'm reaping better than I sowed.
I'm drinking from my saucer
'cause my cup has overflowed.
Haven't got a lot of riches,
and sometimes the going's tough.
But I've got loving ones around me,
and that makes me rich enough.
I thank God for His blessings,
and the mercies He's bestowed.
I'm drinking from my saucer,
'cause my cup has overflowed.
O, Remember times when things went wrong,
my faith wore somewhat thin.
But all at once the dark clouds broke,
and sun peeped through again.
So Lord, help me not to gripe about
the tough rows that I've hoed.
I'm drinking from my saucer,
'cause my cup has overflowed.
If God gives me strength and courage,
when the way grows steep and rough.
I'll not ask for other blessings,
I'm already blessed enough.
And I may never be too busy,
to help others bear their loads.
Then I'll keep drinking from my saucer,
'cause my cup has overflowed.

I hope you are all drinking from your saucers - today and always. Many blessings in 2010!

  1. Love it! We are very fortunate for all that we have. I might have to print that out for my fridge. :)

  3. Jules,

I can't tell you how reading this post touched me. Momma loved that poem, and it still hangs on our fridge at home. I think that definitely summed her up in a nutshell. I hadn't thought about it in a long time, and I definitely needed to hear it again.

  4. Part of the reason I keep it on the fridge is just because it came from her, she is always on my mind when I read it. I'm so glad you shared it with us all! Love you!
